Before Session 1: Message
One short message: when, where, and bring a slide you think is bad
Send: 3–5 working days before Session 1. Optional one-line reminder 48 hours before.
Why so short: participants get a lot of email. In the pilot, almost nobody read the pre-session messages, so this one does one job: the ask. Don’t describe or show the bad-slide exercise. It only works if it’s a surprise.
If nobody reads it: plan as if they didn’t. Bring the bad-slide pack; anyone without a slide uses one from it.
The message
Subject: Teaching That Lands, [date]: bring one bad slide
Hi [name / all],
Looking forward to Session 1, Death by PowerPoint?
When: [day, date, time] (90 minutes)
Where: [room, building]
One ask: if you can, bring a slide you think is bad. One of your own, or one you’ve sat through. On a laptop, a phone or on paper is fine.
The redesign is on paper, so you don’t need a computer. If you’d rather work in PowerPoint and you’re comfortable with it, bring a laptop.
No slide, or no time? Come anyway. We’ll have some in the room.
[Your name]
Reminder (48 hours before)
Teaching That Lands, [day] [time], [room]. If you can, bring a slide you think is bad. If not, just come.
