Facilitator Hub Computer Task Sheet

Computer Task Sheet

Step by step, for first-timers: just the computer tasks the three sessions need. Print one per person.

For participants. Facilitators: print one each for Session 1, and point to it again for the Session 2 ask.

Overview: before you start

You only need to do a few things on a computer in this programme. They’re all below, one step at a time.

New to some of this? That’s fine, and more common than you’d think. Tell the facilitator: you’ll be paired with someone, and everything can be done on paper too. For help beyond the programme, your organisation’s IT service desk or digital skills team can help.

On a work computer, PowerPoint may open in your web browser instead of as an app. The steps are almost the same.

Session 1: working on a slide (laptop route)

The Session 1 redesign is on paper. These steps are only for people who choose to do it in PowerPoint.

Open a PowerPoint file
Double-click the file. Or open PowerPoint, then File → Open, and find the file.

Save a copy before you change anything
File → Save a Copy (or Save As). Add “redesign” to the name, so the original stays safe.

Select slides
Slides are listed down the left-hand side.

  • One slide: click it.
  • Several in a row: click the first, hold Shift, click the last.
  • Several, not in a row: hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and click each one.

Copy a slide to try something new
Right-click the slide on the left → Duplicate Slide.

Undo a mistake
Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (Mac). Press it again to go back further.

Check accessibility
Review tab → Check Accessibility. Work through the list it shows.

Session 2’s ask: make one active learning thing

Open a web browser
On most NHS computers that’s Microsoft Edge. Click the address bar at the top, type the address, press Enter.

Mentimeter (polls, word clouds, quizzes)

  1. Go to mentimeter.com and sign up (free).
  2. Create a new presentation.
  3. Choose a slide type, such as a word cloud or multiple choice, and type your question.
  4. Click Share and copy the link, or note the joining code. People join at menti.com.

Kahoot (quiz games)

  1. Go to kahoot.com and sign up (free).
  2. Click Create, then make a new kahoot.
  3. Add a question and its answers. Save it.
  4. Click Share and copy the link.

Buttons move around as the sites update. If you can’t find something, look for Share, Create or a +.

Keep your link
Email it to yourself, so you can open it next week on any computer.

Session 3: show what you made

  1. Open the email with your link and click it.
  2. Mentimeter: click Present. People join at menti.com with the code.
  3. Kahoot: click Start. People join at kahoot.it with the game PIN.

No link, or it won’t open? Describe what you made. That counts.
